Accessibility Statement (Android App)

At Cal AI, we are committed to creating an inclusive mobile experience that supports users of all abilities. We believe that tracking nutrition, understanding food labels, and making healthy choices should be accessible to everyone—regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive limitations.

App Platform and Accessibility Integration

The Cal AI app is developed for the Android operating system and is available for download via the Google Play Store. We have worked to ensure that our interface is compatible with the core accessibility tools built into the Android ecosystem, including:

Our Accessibility Goals

Cal AI strives to meet or exceed the guidelines of WCAG 2.1 Level AA, as interpreted and applied to mobile platforms via the W3C's working draft: Mobile Accessibility: How WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 Apply to Mobile.

We aim to:

We recognize that one of Cal AI's core features—the ability to capture a photo of food items or scan nutrition labels to generate detailed caloric and macronutrient data—relies heavily on camera-based interactions. We acknowledge that this functionality may not be fully accessible to all users, particularly those who are blind or visually impaired.

For this reason, in addition to camera-based functionality, Cal AI also offers multiple alternative methods to log food, including a comprehensive, searchable food database, recently eaten items, and manual entry options. These features are designed to ensure that all users—regardless of ability or preferred interaction method—can successfully track their nutrition and calorie intake.

While some features may not be available to all users at all times, we are constantly iterating, testing, and seeking ways to improve these capabilities in harmony with assistive technologies. At all times, our goal is to provide a meaningful, inclusive experience for every user.

External Support via Be My Eyes

If you require live assistance using the Cal AI app, especially when interacting with visual features, we recommend "Be My Eyes," a free nonprofit service connecting blind and low-vision users to sighted volunteers for real-time video assistance:
